We were thrilled to have the opportunity to speak directly to the next generation of fundraisers, nonprofit advocates, and world-changers courtesy of the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance. The energy brought by these students is empowering and humbling. We look forward to the way they will change the nonprofit landscape by using digital tools and next generation platforms.

The digital landscape is becoming an increasingly powerful way to engage your community, whether by web, social media, or text. Mobile represents a significant opportunity to add a dynamic tool to your fundraising and marketing toolkit.

I’m the first to admit that I’m easily inspired. You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one…

After attending the annual Cause Marketing Forum in Chicago last week, I headed back to Denver particularly inspired.

The collaboration between nonprofits and brands to promote social good and exchange of ideas had my head spinning. One of many examples includes Jeremy Heiman’s, presentation and a call-to-action for the audience to start “a movement, not a campaign” with this slide (tweeted by @mGive):

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Posted by Angela Whaley on Oct 1, 2010 4:12:00 AM

October resized 600Get ready to start seeing the color pink! October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the color pink will help spread awareness for those affected by breast cancer. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, “aside from non-melanoma skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women.”  Organizations, supporters and survivors use October to discuss their stories, treatments and to help fund research. Everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer, but this month please take a moment and recognize those affected specifically by breast cancer.

Below is a list of mGive clients raising money to fund cancer research, screening, education and treatment programs. You can help wherever you are by simply sending a text message. After you confirm your mobile gift with YES, when prompted please reply with YES again to receive exclusive mobile news from that organization on how your gift is making a difference.

If you have a Facebook account, you can support most of these organizations on your profile page by adding the mGive Facebook Application.

The Importance of Building a Mobile Database and Relationship

Posted by Angela Whaley on Sep 24, 2010 5:00:00 AM

Despite the growing popularity of mobile giving campaigns, the ability to convert one-time anonymous donors into lifelong supporters remains a challenge that many nonprofit organizations are faced with today. mGive is dedicated to helping clients broaden their donor base by integrating a mobile component into their already existing communication and fundraising strategies. Through mGive’s platform, organizations can easily engage supporters and raise funds using text messages, social networks and mobile applications.

To execute a successful mobile strategy, mGive offers a variety of tools that enable clients to easily communicate through text messages, collect information, integrate with leading CRM systems, drive supporters to a website, request recurring donations, recruit volunteers, and much more.Begin developing a database of mobile supporters by introducing new and existing supporters to your mobile initiative. Simply encourage supporters to opt-in to your mobile database by texting a keyword to a short code (example: text EVENT to 50555) to begin receiving text message news and alerts containing important information related to your organization.

Now that you have created a mobile database, begin building a mobile relationship. Whether you have ten mobile subscribers or 10,000, it is critical to send regularlyscheduled outbound text messages to supporters that opt in. The messages can correspond to your email newsletter or inform your supporters about upcoming events, recent projects and campaign goals. Mobile is the first medium where you don’t have to wait for a supporter to come across your message. You can be confident that your text message will be delivered right to your supporter’s hand. Sending timely and relevant information will keep your supporters engaged and will help to build and strengthen the relationship.

Successfully generating a mobile database and building a lasting mobile relationship will help convert one-time anonymous donors into lifelong mobile supporters. Whether you want to rally volunteers for an upcoming event or ask for a donation, the mGive messaging platform enables you to instantly and effectively reach your supporters. Leveraging your relationships through mobile gives your supporters the opportunity to act, donate, and mobilize within seconds.

Want to hear more on this topic? mGive has been nominated to speak on this topic at the upcoming 2011 Nonprofit Technology Conference  (NTC). Please visit http://www.nten.org/node/9969 to cast your vote for the Best Practices – Communicating and Fundraising Using the Mobile Device session to learn more at NTC 2011.

USA Cares Grassroots Mobile Giving Promotion

Posted by Angela Whaley on Apr 15, 2009 9:44:00 AM

USA Cares, an mGive partner, has put together an innovative grassroots Mobile Giving campaign where they recruit at least one key volunteer in every state.  Launching today, their 50/50 campaign looks to have volunteers in every state recruit mobile donors for 50 days. These volunteers will ask supporters to get involved with USA Cares and mGive by texting TROOPS to 90999 to give $5 to USA Cares. The mobile donation campaign for USA Cares is powered by mGive.

Volunteers are provided with Campaign Support Menus that include fundraising ideas and resources, but have the flexibility to promote the campaign as they see fit.  The volunteer(s) that raise the most money in their state during the 50 days will win a trip to Las Vegas as well as many other prizes!

USA Cares works to provide support to military families in their time of need.  USA Cares' Combat Injured Program assists troops with injuries such as Traumatic Brain Injury, TBI or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, PTSD. They still have volunteer opening available in most states. For more information on the campaign, or if you're interested in joining USA Cares to help military families in need, please contact Jen Fox at jfox5050@gmail.com.  Volunteers are most needed in the following states: CT, IA, ID, MI, MN, NE, OK, RI, SC, SD, UT, WI, WV and WY.
