Happy 143 Day!

Posted by mGive Team on Feb 14, 2012 7:33:00 AM

Happy “143” Day! (That’s Happy “I Love You” day in text-messaging terms!) Today I would like to share my love and my blog space with a few nonprofit organizations focused on heart related causes.  We can all be affected by heart disease, whether you’re young, old, man or woman.  So in the spirit of raising awareness for the heart, I encourage you to skip the heart shaped box of chocolates and give to an organization centered on the heart.  Make a mobile donation* to any one of the charities listed below to help keep the beat of life going.

A mGive challenge - To Think Globally, Give Locally

Posted by mGive Team on Dec 30, 2011 3:32:00 AM

Last week I learned that a small, local charity in my community was short hundreds of holiday gifts for children in need. I began spreading the word about this organization and its challenges through my personal network. Soon enough, I was receiving engaging responses such as “how can I help?” from once passive bystanders.

It got me wondering what the response would be from the organization’s supporters if they were notified of this situation via text – especially if such an urgent and special appeal was communicated so close to the holidays with an immediate need. The message could be instant, direct and elicit immediate responses from supporters that could help.

In an effort to test this challenge, I asked the organization to send me a text message the morning of the gift deadline, if there was still an unmet need of holiday gifts.  The morning of the deadline, the Director of the organization sent me a text message letting me know that they were indeed still short. I was empowered to send an immediate response back via text that I would be at their offices with an additional donation by 4:00pm that day. And within minutes, the organization’s director was able to thank me through SMS for my support, which only further reinforced my intention to help.

Make a Difference in the Life of a Child: Text-to-Donate Today!

Posted by mGive Team on Apr 12, 2011 7:13:00 AM

April is National Child Abuse Awareness month. The Child Welfare Information Gateway provides an extensive outline of the history of this advocacy month. The first official Federal child protection legislation, the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA), was passed in 1974. In the early 1980’s, legislation further recognized the need for child abuse prevention by declaring a Child Abuse Awareness week in June; shortly after, that week was adapted to encompass the entire month of April.

This month is dedicated to recognizing and advocating for those who are affected by child abuse. Many organizations are dedicated to this initiative year-round, but this month raises awareness for those who are not necessarily directly impacted by this cause in their daily lives so that they may assist those in need.

The table below highlights a few of the organizations you can support by simply texting in a donation. Your donations will help to raise awareness and create strong communities to support children and their families. After you confirm your mobile gift with YES, when prompted, please reply with YES again to receive exclusive mobile news from the organization on how your gift is making a difference.
