Having launched with mGive, the organization is incorporating mobile donations into the collection process of each participating Krewe.  "Krewes" are well known to those in New Orleans community as kinds of private clubs that organize parties and celebrations in honor of Mardi Gras. "Krewes are a pretty big deal in New Orleans, and being the King of Krewe is a huge honor," says Ethan Frizzell, Area Commander for the Salvation Army in New Orleans. In recent years, the organization has hosted similar Krewe competitions around the time of Halloween (Krewe of Boo) and Mardi Gras (Mardi Gras Krewe). It seems like a great idea to expand the already familiar holiday fundraising event into the Christmas season.

Over the past few months, the organization has been spreading the world about it's Krewe of Christmas Program to members of the New Orleans community by contacting schools and businesses and encouraging them to form their own teams or series of teams to compete in this year's competition. The event will also be promoted through various television slots beginning on Monday, and a kick-off celebration hosted by Mr. Mardi Gras - a well known figure within the New Orleans Community.

From now until Christmas, each Krewe will track its collections. Donations to individual Krewes can be made in person by depositing cash into the Krewe's Kettle, online by donating to their virtual Kettle with a credit card, or via text message by texting a Krewe specific keyword to their mobile Kettle. Non- Krewe specific donations can be made to the Salvation Army Greater New Orleans Area Command by texting KING to 90999. The winning Krewe of this year's competition will be rewarded with a private suite at a New Orleans Hornets home game in January.

Mobile donations for the Salvation Army Greater New Orleans America Command are powered by mGive.
